Bookmarks
are used to note, bookmark, and save specific web pages URLs or addresses. Then we can easily navigate these pages without remembering the exact URL or event web site or domain name. Mozilla Firefox provides different ways to export, backup, and manage bookmarks. In this tutorial, we will learn how to export bookmarks in different ways and import them into Firefox and other browsers easily.
Mozilla Firefox Bookmark Export Formats
Before starting to learn how to export bookmarks we need to learn bookmark export formats or types. There are two types of bookmark export format. HTML Bookmark Export format
provides a more user-friendly and readable bookmark which can be also imported by other browsers easily. HTML Export Format is a standardized way to export, move, and import bookmarks between different browsers and platforms. JSON Bookmark Export Format
is mainly used by Mozilla Firefox which is used between different Firefox Browsers to export, move and import bookmarks.
Open Firefox Bookmark Manager
Mozilla Firefox provides the bookmarks and bookmark Manager inside the Library
tool. So we will open the library and navigate to the Bookmark Manager. Bookmark manager can be opened in different ways. We can use the Library icon on the Firefox like below and then select the Bookmarks.

The Bookmarks menu provides following items and we will click to the Show All Bookmarks
which will open the Bookmarks Manager.

The bookmarks are provided in an external tool named Library and the bookmark list can be navigated from the left sidebar menu like below. In this case, we have selected the Bookmarks Toolbar category to list bookmarks.

Export/Backup Firefox Bookmark As HTML
From the Library tool menu we will click to the Import and Backup
item which will open a new menu which contains Export Bookmarks to HTML
. We will click to the export bookmarks to HTML button like below.

We will see the following Export Bookmarks File menu where we will specify the name and location of the exported bookmark file. Then we will click to the Save button like below which will export the Firefox bookmarks into the specified file.

The exported bookmark HTML file content is very simple. It is like a web page from the 90’s and contains the category names as headers and bookmarks under these categories with name and address or URL.

Export/Backup Firefox Bookmark As JSON
Alternatively, we can export of Backup the Bookmarks as a JSON file format. We will use the Library tool and the Import and Backup
item and then Backup
item like below.

Below we can see the Bookmarks backup file name menu. We will specify the exported bookmarks JSON file name and path. The current date is added at the end of the default file name. Last step is clicking to the Save button like below.

The content of the exported bookmark file is like below which is structured and formatted as JSON.

Import HTML Bookmark Into Firefox
Up to now, we have exported the Firefox bookmarks into different file types and formats like HTML and JSON. We can import these exported bookmark files into Firefox easily. We will use the Library tool again and click on the Import and Backup
item from menu bar. Then we will click on the Import Bookmarks from HTML
item like below.

We will see the Import Bookmarks File
screen where we will specify the HTML Bookmark File like below. The last step is clicking to the Open
button like below.

Import JSON Bookmark Into Firefox
Exported JSON Bookmark file can be also imported easily like an HTML file. We will click to the Import and Backup
item from the Library menu bar. Then we will click to the Restore
item which will provide the export history and Choose File
menu like below.We can select previous exports from here easily which will import these Bookmark exports directly if they exist in their locations. Alternatively

Below we will specify the JSON file with its name and location which will be imported by clicking Open
button.
